How to Become a Real Estate Agent in Arizona

If you're considering starting a real estate career in Arizona, it doesn’t matter if you’re in Phoenix, Tucson, Mesa, Chandler, or any other city in the state, you'll need to earn an Arizona real estate license.
To earn your real estate license in Arizona, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Complete 90 hours of approved education
- Attend a six-hour contract writing class
- Obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Complete a background check and the Disciplinary Actions Disclosure Form
- Pass the Arizona salesperson licensing exam
- Apply for licensure and secure employment with a sponsoring broker
While the process to become a real estate agent is similar in most states, each state has unique steps that must be adhered to. The six steps to becoming an Arizona real estate agent are as follows:
Step 1: Be at Least 18 Years of Age
In addition to being at least 18 years of age, you must also show proof of high school graduation or equivalent.
Step 2: Complete Your Required Education
The State of Arizona Department of Real Estate requires you, as a salesperson applicant, to complete a required 90-hour Arizona Real Estate Principles course. In addition, you must also attend a six-hour contract writing class and provide a certificate of completion before completing the license application.
Step 3: Obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card and Complete a Background Check
Before you can apply for your real estate license, you much submit a Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Obtaining a Fingerprint Clearance Card may take 8–10 weeks. You will also need to complete a background check and the Disciplinary Actions Disclosure Form. Applicant must provide all information listed on the forms and in the Candidate Handbook.
Step 4: Take the Arizona Salesperson Licensing Exam
Once you receive your authorization to take the exam, register and pass the salesperson’s exam with the exam provider, Pearson Vue. To schedule your exam, visit the Pearson Vue website.
Step 5: Complete and Submit Your Real Estate Salesperson License Application
After your examination, you must apply for your real estate license within one year of passing the exam. Visit the website of the Arizona Real Estate Commission to apply for your license.
Step 6: Obtain an Employing Broker Sponsor
To practice as a real estate salesperson, you must be sponsored by a licensed Arizona Employing Broker. You can either apply with a sponsoring broker or if your employing broker is confirmed at least 48 hours before the exam date, you can receive your photo license at the Pearson Vue exam site after completing your exam. If you did not confirm a broker before the exam, you can do it afterward through the State of Arizona Department of Real Estate website
