Salesperson Pre Licensing Education Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Provide a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Complete 120 hours of education. This education must be completed no longer than one year before applying for a license.
  • Take and pass the Sales Agent exam. A request for licensure must be made within 90 days of passing the exam, or will have to retake.
  • Submit application to the Division and utilize the checklist provided by the state to ensure a complete application. Find form here: Checklist
    • Completed and signed application
    • Complete Qualifying Questionnaire (provided by testing center)
    • Submit for background check and provide two fingerprint cards (Blue FD-258) or receipt of electronic fingerprint submission and signed Fingerprint Waiver.
    • Complete Certification of Legal Presence
    • Complete Candidate Education Certifying Document

Broker Pre Licensing Education Requirements

  • Meet the statutory licensing qualifications of honesty, integrity, truthfulness, reputation and competency. (Utah Code Annotate 61-2f) Administrative Rules
  • Within the past five-year period preceding the date of the application, have three years full-time, licensed, active real estate experience; or two years full-term, licensed, active real estate experience and one year full-time professional real estate experience.
  • Within the five-year period preceding the date of the application, accumulate a total of at least 60 documented experience points complying with R162-2f-401a.
  • Complete and pass 120 hours of approved education consisting of:
    • Part 1 Utah Law - 30 hours including 3 hours testing
    • Part 2 Broker Principles (Fundamentals) - 45 hours, including 4 hours testing
    • Part 3 Broker Practices (Broker Level) - 45 hours, including 4 hours testing
  • Take and pass the Broker Exam.
  • Submit application to the Division and use checklist to ensure a complete application.
    • Completed and signed application
    • Signed original school certificates or Education Waiver
    • Signed and Notarized Broker Experience Documentation Form showing at least three years of qualifying experience. 
    • Completed and signed Broker Transaction Log or Broker Property Management Log showing at least 60 experience points within the five years preceding application.
    • Signed and notarized Broker Verification Form completed by each Broker with whom the applicant has affiliated during the five years proceeding application.
    • For Principal and Branch Brokers, a notarized letter on the company’s letterhead, signed by a company Officer, Manager/Member or Owner, authorizing the Broker to use the company name. 
    • Submit two fingerprint cards or receipt of digital fingerprints submission.
    • Provide completed certification of legal presence.

Salesperson Continuing Education Requirements-First Renewal

  • Licenses are valid for a two-year period and must be renewed no sooner than six weeks prior to and no later than the expiration date. (Expiration dates are printed on the license.)
  • Must complete 18 hours of education per renewal cycle.
  • New Real Estate Agents are required to take the 12 Hour New Agent Course, the 3-hour Mandatory Course, and an additional 3 hours of CE (either Core Topic or Elective hours) to meet the required 18 hours.
  • All CE must be completed by the 15th day of the renewal month in order to ensure an on-time license renewal.

Salesperson Continuing Education Requirements-Subsequent Renewals

  • Licenses are valid for a two-year period and must be renewed no sooner than 45 days prior to and no later than the expiration date. (Expiration dates are printed on the license.)
  • Must complete 18 hours of education per renewal cycle.
  • A minimum of 9 of the 18 hours must be Core Topic Courses, (and 3 of the 9 required Core Topic Course hours must be satisfied by completing a Division approved 3-Hour Mandatory Course).
  • All CE must be completed by the 15th day of the renewal month in order to ensure an on-time license renewal.

Broker Continuing Education Requirements
