Salesperson Pre licensing Education Requirements

Broker Pre licensing Education Requirements

  • Applicants must hold an active salesperson license for two of the last five years and comply with the following requirements:
  • If licensed before 1/1/1972, no further education is required
  • If licensed after 1/1/1972, but before 1/03/1984, applicant must have taken the required 120 hours (courses a–d listed below)
  • If licensed on or after 1/3/1984, applicants must take courses a–h listed below and possess a minimum of two years of post-secondary education (i) or the equivalent hours of 60 semesters or 90 quarter hours
  • Education Requirements:
    • Ohio Real Estate Law (40 hours)
    • Ohio Real Estate Principles & Practices (40 hours)
    • Real Estate Appraisal (20 hours)
    • Real Estate Finance (20 hours)
    • A Financial Management course
    • A Human Resources or Personnel Management course
    • An Applied Business Economics course
    • A Business Law Course
    • A minimum of two years of post-secondary education or equivalent hours of 60 semesters or 90 quarter hours. Courses e–h may be included in your post-secondary education

Salesperson Post-Licensing Education Requirements

  • No later than 12 months after licensure, salesperson licensees are required to submit proof that they have completed 20 hours of education

  • For licensees to submit their proof of post licensing education completion, please email a copy of the attendance certificate to postcert@com.ohio.gov.

Broker Post-Licensing Education Requirements

Salesperson Continuing Education Requirements

  • Renewal periods are on licensee’s birthday occurring three years after the licensee’s date of initial licensure and on or before the licensee’s birthday every three years thereafter
  • Renewals are done online through the Elicensing system on or before the due date
  • Licensees must complete 30 hours of education to include:
    • 3 hours of instruction in Ohio Real Estate Law, recently enacted state and federal laws affecting the real estate industry 
    • 3 hours of instruction in municipal, state, and federal civil rights law;
    • 3 hours of instruction in canon of ethics for the real estate industry as adopted by the commission
    • 21 hours of electives

Broker Continuing Education Requirements

  • Renewal periods are on licensee’s birthday occurring three years after the licensee’s date of initial licensure and on or before the licensee’s birthday every three years thereafter
  • Renewals are done online through the Elicensing system on or before the due date
    • 3 hours of instruction in Ohio Real Estate Law, recently enacted state and federal laws affecting the real estate industry 
    • 3 hours of instruction in municipal, state, and federal civil rights law; 
    • 3 hours of instruction in canon of ethics for the real estate industry as adopted by the commission
    • 3 hour education on duties of a principal broker and other issues involved in operating a real estate brokerage.
    • 18 hours of electives
