How to Obtain a Property Inspectors License
A. Be 18 years of age or older
B. Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
C. Complete 80 hours of education covering the following topics:
a. Heating systems
b. Cooling systems
c. Plumbing systems
d. Electrical systems
e. Structural components
f. Foundations
g. Roof coverings
h. Exterior and Interior components
i. Site aspects as they affect the building
D. Applicants for licensure may satisfy the examination requirements of 26 V.S.A § 1091(3) by offering proof of certification by one of the approved, independent, national recognized organizations that provide certification for property inspectors.
a. The National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI)
b. The American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI)
E. Applicants who do not hold an active certification from one of the organizations listed above must satisfy the examination requirement of 26 V.S.A § 1091(3) by passing the National Home Inspector Examination developed by the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors
F. Submit application and pay applicable fees
