Arkansas Real Estate Salesperson Licensing
Requirements to Obtain a Salesperson License:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Complete 60 hours of Real Estate education, of which 30 must be in the basic principles of real estate. To receive a certificate of completion a score of 90% is required on the end of course exam.
- *NOTE: AREC will now accept Applications for Real Estate License Examination prior to completion of the sixty-hour (60) pre-licensing course
- Please note that Certificates of Exam Eligibility will not be issued until
- AREC receives proof of completion of pre-license education AND
- Complete Background Check Acknowledgment (BCA) Form has been submitted to AREC.
- Submit a salesperson application to the AREC including information required for State and Federal Background Checks (Background Check Acknowledgment Identity Form (BCA), newly automated process.
- Receive approval to sit for the exam from the Arkansas Real Estate Commission (Pearson Vue)
- Wait for authorization to get fingerprinting done. Fingerprinting is done online through a portal. Do NOT have fingerprints made until you receive an email from AREC authorizing you to do so
- Pass the Arkansas State and National Exam
- Send all fees and documentation to the Arkansas Real Estate Commission no later than 90 days after passing the examinations.
- Post-license Education
Arkansas Real Estate Broker Licensing
Requirements to Obtain a Broker’s License:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Complete 60 hours of real estate education, 45 hours must be the commission developed Broker Prelicense Education course (within the thirty-six (36) months immediately preceding the date of the application) . To receive a certificate of completion a score of 90% is required on the end of course exam
- Have been licensed as an active real estate salesperson or broker for no less than 24 months within the 48 months preceding the date of application. Written request of such experience requirement may be waived for a real estate broker applicant who has held an active real estate broker license for not less than 18 months or has experience acceptable to the commission in a field considered real estate-related for not less than 24 months within the previous 48
- Submit a broker application to the AREC including information required for State and Federal Background Checks
- Receive approval to sit for the exam from the Arkansas Real Estate Commission (Pearson Vue).
- Pass the licensure examination
- Send the proper forms and fees to the Arkansas Real Estate Commission no later than ninety (90) days after passing the examination.
- Post-license Education
Salesperson Post-Licensing Education Requirements
- Complete 18 hour of Post-licensing education during the first year of licensure and must be taken by the end of the month six (6) months* after the date the individual was initially licensed
Broker Post Licensing Education Requirements
- Complete the 30-hour AREC post-licensure course within six (6) months after the date the individual was initially licensed.
Salesperson Continuing Education Requirements
- All active licensees are required to complete seven (7) hours of continuing education in 2025. Brokers and salespersons have different course requirements.
- Licensees must complete a 3-hour course on Agency Representation and Compensation.
- 1 hour – Limiting Risk to Preserve personal safety for agents and clients.
- An elective 3-hour continuing education course must also be completed in 2025.
- To receive a certificate of completion a score of 90% is required on the end of course exam.
Broker Continuing Education Requirements
- All active licensees are required to complete seven (7) hours of continuing education in 2025. Brokers and salespersons have different course requirements.
- Licensees must complete a 3-hour course on Broker Supervision/Agency.
- 1 hour – Limiting Risk to Preserve personal safety for agents and clients.
- An elective 3-hour continuing education course must also be completed in 2025.
- To receive a certificate of completion a score of 90% is required on the end of course exam
