Salesperson Prelicensing Education Requirements

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Provide proof of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be a U.S. resident
  • Have completed 5 college credits or 75 hours of real estate education (effective 8/28/18) in Real Estate Fundamentals and Real Estate Practice within 5 years prior to passing the licensing examination
  • (Optional)—Possess a bachelor’s degree with a major in real estate or the equivalent from an accredited college, university, or institute of higher learning
  • (Optional)—a juris doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Have successfully passed both the state and national exam
  • Provide a background check

    Broker Prelicensing Education Requirements

    • Be 21 years or older
    • Provide proof of high school diploma or equivalent certification
    • Courses must be completed within 10 years of the passing date of both portions of the exam
    • Have worked at least three years as a licensed salesperson
    • Have completed 240 hours (16 college credits) of instruction
    • Provide transcripts of credits of education
    • Provide a detailed resume of real estate activities performed by the candidate while working as a salesperson and a sworn statement from the candidate’s employing broker confirming that these activities were performed by the candidate as a licensed salesperson
    • (Optional)- Bachelor’s degree with a major in Real Estate from an accredited college, juris doctor degree from an accredited law school, Completed 240 hours of broker pre-licensure coursework in another jurisdiction that was approved to meet the requirements of licensure in that jurisdiction.
    • Two credits will also be allowed for each year of active practice the applicant has had as a licensed broker in another state during the 10 years immediately preceding the submission of the exam application.
    • Provide Criminal History Records Check (CHRC)  for the past 5 years
    • Successfully pass the State and National portions of the state exam. 

    Salesperson First Renewal Requirements

    • Licenses expire May 31 of every even-numbered year
    • Complete 14 hours of continuing education within the biennial renewal cycle■ One General Module
      ■ One Practice Specific Module (out of two)

    Salesperson 2nd and Subsequent Renewals Requirements

    • Licenses expire May 31 of every even-numbered year
    • Complete 14 hours of continuing education within the biennial renewal cycle

      Broker Renewal Requirements

      • Licenses expire May 31 of every even-numbered year
      • Complete 14 hours of continuing education within the biennial renewal cycle
