Rhode Island Real Estate License Reciprocity and Portability
Rhode Island offers partial reciprocity in both Connecticut and Massachusetts. (For non-Rhode Island residents only.)
Steps for Real Estate License Reciprocity in Rhode Island
- Step 1: Submit a completed Reciprocal Real Estate Salesperson Application
- Step 2: Provide a Criminal History Record (CHR) from the Rhode Island Department of the Attorney General and a CHR/CORI from your home state’s law enforcement agency
- Step 3: Complete a three-hour Lead Poisoning/Lead Hazard Mitigation Course
- Step 4: Submit a Certificate of Errors and Omissions Insurance
- Step 5: Provide a Letter of Good Standing from your home state’s licensing authority
- Step 6: Include an irrevocable Power of Attorney Form for service of process
Florida residents can apply for a Reciprocal Real Estate Salesperson’s License in Rhode Island under the Mutual Recognition Agreement. First pass the state portion of the Rhode Island licensing exam, then submit the required documentation outlined above for reciprocity.
What Is Military Portability?
- Licenses are expedited for military spouses
- Permanent licenses are issued to military spouses from states with substantially equivalent requirements to Rhode Island
- If requirements are not equivalent, a temporary license will be issued for a limited time while military spouses complete any state-specific requirements
