How to Get a Real Estate License in Oklahoma

If you're considering starting a real estate career in Oklahoma, it doesn’t matter if you’re in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Norman, Edmond, or any other city in the state. You'll need to earn an Oklahoma real estate license.

Steps to Earn an Oklahoma Real Estate Provisional Sales Associate License

While the process to become a licensed real estate agent is similar in most states, each state has unique steps that must be followed. The five beginning steps to becoming an Oklahoma real estate agent are as follows:

Step 1: Complete the 90-Hour Pre-License Provisional Sales Associate Course

The pre-license Provisional Sales Associate education course you must complete should be a 90-hour course provided by an approved real estate education provider.

If you have already passed and completed 90 hours’ worth of real estate education, ensure it was completed within the last 36 months before applying for an Oklahoma real estate Provisional Sales Associate license. This education expires within 3 years of completion.

Step 2: Pass the Oklahoma Real Estate Sales Associate Exams

To schedule your Oklahoma Provisional Sales Associate exam, you’ll need to pay $75 and schedule a time to sit for the exam with Pearson VUE.
 
There are two portions of the Oklahoma real estate Provisional Sales Associate exam, the national (general) and the state, and you have 4 hours to complete the exams. To get a real estate license in Oklahoma, you must achieve a scaled score of 70% on each exam.
 
If you need to reschedule or cancel your Provisional Sales Associate exam, provide at least 2 days' notice before exam day. You must arrive at the testing center at least 30 minutes before the scheduled exam time to be admitted to take your exam.
 

Typically, you will receive your score report immediately after completing the exams.

Step 3: Pass Background Check and Provide Proof of Citizenship

Students who pass the Oklahoma real estate Provisional Sales Associate exam must also complete a background check with IdentoGO

In addition to passing a background check, you will also need to provide proof of citizenship with your Provisional Sales Associate License application to the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission. 

Step 4: Apply for Your Provisional Sales Associate License with the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission

After passing the Oklahoma real estate Provisional Sales Associate exam, apply with the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission for a Provisional Sales Associate License and pay applicable fees.

Step 5: Find a Real Estate Broker

Once you have completed your pre-licensing education requirements and passed your exam, you and your Broker must complete the final paperwork with the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission.

Consider finding a real estate Broker early in your licensing process to help you understand the process.

After your paperwork is accepted, your license will be issued, and you will be able to practice real estate under your sponsoring Broker.

How to Choose a Real Estate Broker

Oklahoma Real Estate Provisional Sales Associate Post-Licensing & Continuing Education Requirements

After becoming a licensed Provisional Sales Associate in Oklahoma, you will be required to complete a 45-hour post-license course before your Provisional Sales Associate license expires.

During your time as a Provisional Sales Associate in Oklahoma, you also will need to complete a total of 21 hours of continuing education (CE) with at least 1 hour of CE from an approved real estate education provider in each of the following topics:

  • Oklahoma Broker Relationship Act
  • Oklahoma Code and Rules
  • Oklahoma Contracts and Forms
  • Fair Housing
  • Hot Topic
  • Professional Conduct

Once you have completed both CE requirements, you can begin the process of becoming a real estate Sales Associate if you wish.

Steps to Earn an Oklahoma Real Estate Sales Associate License

Before submitting your application to the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission for your real estate Sales Associate License, you will need to have been licensed for two years as a Provisional Sales Associate.

Oklahoma Real Estate Sales Associate Continuing Education Requirements

After earning your sales associate license in Oklahoma, you will need to complete some continuing education (CE) every three years. The total CE hours required to keep your sales associate license active is 21. Your coursework should cover these real estate CE topics:

  • Broker Relationship Act (1 hour)
  • Code and Rules (1 hour)
  • Contracts and Forms (1 hour)
  • Fair Housing (1 hour)
  • Hot Topic (1 hour)
  • Professional Conduct (1 hour)
  • The remaining hours can be electives

Steps to Earn an Oklahoma Real Estate Broker License

To become a real estate Broker in Oklahoma, you will need to be licensed for two years as a Sales Associate before submitting your application to become a real estate Broker.

After earning your real estate Broker license in Oklahoma, you will need to complete 21 hours of continuing education (CE) every three years. Your coursework should cover these real estate CE topics:

  • Broker-in-Charge course (15 hours)
  • The remaining hours (6 hours) should be in two of the following six categories
    • Broker Relationship Act
    • Code and Rules
    • Contracts and Forms
    • Fair Housing
    • Hot Topic
    • Professional Conduct
