Salesperson Pre Licensing Education Requirements

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Provide proof of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Complete the following education:
    • 30 hour Principles of Real Estate (not required for those licensed in another state)
    • 30 hour Kansas Practice course
  • Education requirements can be found in the state ruling 58-3046a and KREC Website.
  • Submit a completed fingerprint card, background waiver form, and fees.
  • Affiliate with a licensed Kansas Real Estate Broker; application must be signed by a supervising or branch broker certifying the applicant’s honesty, trustworthiness, and good reputation and acknowledging any pending charge, conviction, diversion, or suspended imposition of sentence received by the applicant.
  • Pass the State and national exam within 12 months of the date on completion certificate and apply for licensure. 
  • Once you have passed the exam, submit the License Application documents provided by Pearson Vue to KREC along with your certificates of completion for the pre-license education, payment of $125 salesperson license fee and if applicable, a Nonresident Form and Certification of License History from any state you are currently or formerly licensed in.

On April 24, 2025, KREC will begin using a new online system for pre-licensure applications. Students will create an account on Citizen Access and submit their applications, supporting documents, and fees through this system. More information can be found here.

Broker Pre Licensing Education Requirements

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Provide proof of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Meet experience requirements found here.
  • Complete the 60-hour prelicensing requirement. 
    • Complete 30-hour Kansas Real Estate Fundamentals course
    • Complete 30-hour Real Estate Broker Management course
  • Applicants with a current broker’s license in another state must complete:
    • 34-hour prelicensing requirement: 
      • 4-hour Kansas Law course
      • Effective January 1, 2020, 30-hour Broker Management course
  • Submit completed fingerprint card, background waiver form, and application fees.
  • Pass the State and National Exam within 12 months of the date of completion certificate and apply for licensure.
  • Complete application and include:
    • If opening a new office, submit an Open Company or Branch Office Form (REC-430) and a $100.00 fee.
    • If the applicant will be an associate in an existing office, the form must be signed by the supervising or branch broker certifying background.

  • Complete 12 hours of education to include:
    • 3 hours mandatory in a course titled "Kansas Required Core”
    • 9 elective hours
      • Three hours of elective CE credit during a renewal period to be earned by attending a Commission meeting in person

Exam Provider Information

  • All questions regarding State and National Exam can be directed to Pearson Vue.
  • Review all reading materials on the testing provider’s website to ensure being fully prepared for exam day.
