What is Virtual Classroom Proctoring?
Some regulatory agencies require students to take a proctored, end-of-course final exam. In some instances, the exam must be proctored by the education provider.
Many states are now allowing for virtual classroom proctoring versus live in-person proctoring. Virtual proctoring works in much the same way, but instead of meeting your proctor in a physical classroom, your exam will be proctored in Kaplan’s virtual classroom.
Kaplan now offers virtual classroom proctoring for many of our courses via our virtual classroom in the Learning Management System (LMS). To enroll in a proctoring session, you must meet all course requirements first:
- For Live Online courses, there are attendance and participation requirements (including completing all required makeup time, if necessary).
- For Online Component, Correspondence Course with Video Review, OnDemand or Online courses, the full course must be completed.
How do I schedule my proctoring session with Kaplan Real Estate Education?
After completing your course, please refer to the course-completion instructions for information on how to schedule a proctoring session in Kaplan's virtual classroom for a date and time that works for you, but is also within your course's access period. Your access period can be found within the Learning Management System (LMS) under each course on your home page. Students who enroll in a Virtual Classroom Proctoring session prior to completing will have that session cancelled, will not be refunded their registration fee, and will need to re-enroll in a session once the course is complete.
Upon scheduling the session, students will receive an order confirmation email and a second email with access instructions. Students will also receive class confirmation/reminder emails closer to their scheduled proctored date. Exams will be proctored in our virtual classroom, which students access via the LMS.
Live Online students will receive an exam password from their instructor at the end of their course (this does not apply to Texas students). This password must be used to access the exam. This password must be entered in the presence of the proctor each time the exam is attempted.
Online Component, Correspondence Course with Video Review, Online, OnDemand, and Online Video Course students will have access to the exam after the course is completed.
What happens on my virtually proctored exam day?
- You will be asked to enter the virtual classroom via the LMS at least five minutes before your session is scheduled to begin. Late-arriving students may be subject to a cancellation/rescheduling fee.
- You must download Zoom Desktop Client prior to your session and have a microphone, speakers or a headset, and a video camera (webcam). The proctor must be able to see and hear you at all times (and vice versa).
- You will be asked to scan your camera around your testing area so the proctor can confirm that you do not have any available exam aids (open books, additional monitors, etc.).
- You will be asked to share your screen so the proctor can confirm that you do not have additional browser tabs open that might aid in your exam.
- You must have a state-issued identification card (you will be asked to hold it up to your camera and show it to the proctor at the time of the exam so the proctor can confirm your identity).
- To launch your exam:
- Live Online students will receive an exam password at the end of your course that must be used to access the exam (this does not apply to Texas students). This password must be entered in the presence of the proctor each time the exam is attempted.
- Online Component, Correspondence Course with Video Review, OnDemand, Online Video, and Online students will have access to the exam after the course is completed.
- Once in the exam, students will also need to fill out a proctor form via the virtual classroom in the LMS. The proctor must be present when filling this out.
- After passing the exam, both you and the proctor must read the affirmation statements and check the “I affirm” checkboxes to complete the exam attempt.
- You then must go back to the Dashboard and click the “Affidavit” icon. You must accept your affidavit to ensure your course is considered complete and so we can process and release your completion certificate.
- Your proctor should give you permission to exit the virtual classroom. Closing the virtual classroom browser window/tab will exit you from the virtual classroom.
What are the technical specifications?
- You must use a computer or a laptop (no phones or tablets) and a reliable internet connection (a hard-wired connection—rather than Wi-Fi—is recommended to ensure the best possible connectivity).
- For PC users, we recommend the use of current Chrome, Firefox, or Edge browsers. For Mac users, we recommend the use of current Chrome, Firefox, or Safari browsers.
- Please click here to review the technical specifications and to run a quick, 30-second system test to verify your connection and system configurations. If you have technical difficulties, please call our Technical Support Team at 800.636.9517.
What if I do not pass the first time?
- Each state sets the number of attempts allowed for the exam. No matter how many attempts are allowed, each one must be proctored and will feature different questions. If you are unsuccessful on an exam attempt, you must enroll in another proctoring session for your subsequent exam attempt.
